To get all 3 starters you have to have these items

Two Gameboys

First put everything together. Then start a new game on a version. Pick a starter, catch a pokemon then trade your starter with a weak pokemon on the other version.

Start another new game and pick a different starter. Repeat the steps.

The third time is different. Start a new game and pick the last starter. Catch TWO pokemon and trade your two pokemon you just caught with the two starters that you traded. Now you have three new pokemon on your pokedex already including the two pokemon you traded!
